Building off the success from EAPO’s Conference Series on Risk Assessment Tools (January, 2023) and the interest from Dr. Storey’s keynote presentation on the Harm to Older Persons Evaluation (HOPE) tool, EAPO is pleased to announce further risk assessment training for frontline professionals.
Given the overwhelming interest from front-line professionals supporting older adults in learning how to effectively conduct risk assessments for older adults who are at-risk or experiencing elder abuse, EAPO is pleased to host announce it will be hosting an additional VIRTUAL Training Workshop on the Harm to Older Persons Evaluation (HOPE) tool.
The HOPE training is also planned as one of the many EAPO activities that is being organized in recognition of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week.
The workshop will empower workers and provide a forum for intersectoral service provider training on evaluating and assessing risk of older adults, as well as the perpetrators’ risk for engaging in the abuse and the skills support and respond to seniors at risk of abuse in the community.
EAPO in collaboration with Dr. Jennifer Storey, Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology at the University of Kent are pleased to host a 2 day virtual training (May 17th & 19th, 2023) on the Harm to Older Persons Evaluation (HOPE) tool.
Dr. Storey developed the HOPE, a risk assessment tool for older adult mistreatment (OAM), based on the empirical literature on OAM. The HOPE is a structured professional judgment tool that provides guidelines for use by social care, health, and mental health, mediation, law enforcement, criminal justice, and security personnel in the assessement of risk for OAM.
This 2 day HOPE Virtual Training will guide evaluators in the completion of a comprehensive assessment of risk for future OAM and in the development of a management plan to reduce the likelihood of continued OAM.
The comprehensive nature of the HOPE precludes its use by many frontline practitioners who are tasked with triaging a concern of OAM and implementing preliminary intervention while referring the case for more in-depth assessment.
At the completion of the training, participants will be provided a Certificate – Completion of HOPE Training from Dr. Storey.
