Each year during the third week of October, Canadians, and people around the world mark YWCA’s Week Without Violence, a week-long series of community events promoting diverse approaches to creating a violence-free world.

Activities throughout the week focus on raising awareness, promoting attitude change, and enabling individuals and organizations to begin positive actions towards ending violence in their communities.

People in schools, workplaces, and neighborhood organizations throughout Canada recognize this annual violence prevention initiative aimed at making violence a thing of the past. Violence against women remains a global concern despite the work being done. We know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally. Some survivors of violence go unrecognized, unheard, and unanswered.

What we are doing needs support and partnership to come together to promote the next steps.

Get Involved

We invite local YWCAs, partners, intergenerational leaders, young women and women of all ages all to raise awareness and take action to end violence against women.  In a context where COVID-19 still presents challenges to the development of women of all ages, we believe that intergenerational action is key to counter GBV and build a better world. To co-create solutions for a world without GBV, World YWCA has created a Toolkit and we invite you to engage in this cause by using some of the following resources from their Week Without Violence Toolkit:

  • Easy-to-use and customizable social media templates (pages 12-13);
  • Key messages to advocate on social media (pages 9-13);
  • The latest data about GBV around the world (pages 5-7);
  • Ideas on getting together!: how to engage beyond social media (pages 14-16);
  • Great resources to increase awareness (page 17).

Download it and contribute to the fight against GBV by sharing the content in social media, planning engaging activities and/or advocating with other tools shared in this document!
