Recognition Award for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and Restorative Practices to Elder Abuse
EAPO formally acknowledged the commitment of volunteers from local Elder Abuse Networks at the 2nd Annual ‘Recognition Award for the Prevention of Elder Abuse’ in recognition of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week.
Webinar:
Julie Friesen, Director of Programs, Community Justice Initiatives (CJI) of Waterloo Region and Wendy Meek, Supervisor and Mediator, Elder Mediation Program for Community Justice Initiatives, shared how their experiences and how restorative practices are used, to walk alongside older adults, their families, friends and neighbours as they deal with difficult situations. CJIWR explained how building a culture of respect, autonomy, dignity, and support with older adults is making a difference.
Restorative Justice, in collaboration with other community services has been proven to reduce isolation, by reconnecting people and promoting reconciliations, after experiencing conflict, crime or abuse.
