Empowering Strategies to Support the Resiliency of Older: Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence
Older victims of intimate partner violence experience unique challenges and barriers to live free from harm. Often these older victims have lived through decades of physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse and trauma. Due to many factors, many older victims are reluctant to reach out for help. Professionals, family members, and friends often fail to identify indicators of abuse or respond effectively. Bonnie Brandl, Director of the U.S. National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life, discussed key dynamics of abuse in later life and provides empowering strategies to support the resiliency of older survivors.
